The chief prosecutor of Ciocana district Igor Popa, deputy chief prosecutor of the municipality of Chisinau, was arrested. Anticorruption prosecutors, together with officers of the Ministry of the Interior, are carrying out investigative measures in a case of unjust enrichment, IPN reports.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the criminal proceedings were instituted following journalistic investigations into the property of the deputy chief prosecutor of the municipality of Chisinau.

Eight searches are being conducted at deferent locations, including at the home, in the car and the office of Igor Popa, who is now under arrest.

Ruslan Popov, one of the deputies of the suspended Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, is also investigated for unjust enrichment.
