A new list for the Executive Committee of Gagauzia has emerged, after being leaked by the local activist Leonid Dobrov, nokta.md reported. The document is dated August 18 and appears to have the signature of Governor Yevgenia Gutsul on it.
Notably, Orhei Mayor Pavel Verejanu and legal adviser Iuri Kuznetsov are no longer among the candidates.
Gutsul proposed the first iteration of the new Executive Committee more than three weeks ago, but she hasn’t been able yet to secure the approval of the People’s Assembly for installing the Committee.
While the autonomy’s lawmakers citied procedural violations for the repeated rejection, it rather reflects their resistance to efforts made by the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, who supports Gutsul, to increase his influence in Gagauzia.
Meanwhile, the law allows the governor of Gagauzia to dissolve the People’s Assembly if the proposed executive committee is not installed within 45 days.
