CEC to announce voter turnout at 11am
According to the information published on the website www.voteaza.md this morning, the turnout of voters in the September 5 referendum was 28.88%. A turnout of 33.3% is needed to validate the results of the constitutional referendum. Yesterday after 11pm, the secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan announced that the preliminary voter turnout in Moldova was 29.67%. The Commission is to present the updated information in a press briefing today at 11am, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to CEC officials, the data from Dubasari district and Moldova's embassies abroad have been furnished. The last polling places closed in New York and Washington at 3am, Moldova's time.
On September 5, voters were asked whether they are in favor or against amending Article 78 of the Constitution so that it allows for direct election of the head of state.
