CEC thanks those who contributed to organising and observing local elections
The Central Election Commission expresses its gratitude to the members of the district election council of first and second levels and to the election bureaus of the polling stations, the central and local authorities for showing devotement in carrying out the election-related tasks in 2007, reads a gratitude message approved by the CEC meeting held on Tuesday, July 3.
CEC says that the organisation of this year’s local general elections needed a supplementary effort from all those involved due to the relatively recent amendments to the electoral legislation. Although certain violations were reported in the electoral process, they were not so serious to endanger the organisation of free, democratic and fair elections.
Also, the Commission expresses gratitude to the national and international observers, especially to the Coalition 2007, Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, which have contributed to observing the poll.
The local general elections in Moldova took place on June 3, and the runoffs in several settlements – on June 17.
International observers said after June 3 that generally speaking, the elections were well administered and the voters were given a genuine choice. The Coalition 2007 said on June 4, that to a great extent, the local elections held on June 3, 2007 met the international criteria for free and fair elections.
