The Central Election Commission (CEC) has initiated eight contravention cases over non-observance of the caps on donations in cash in the campaign prior to the gubernatorial election held in Gagauzia, IPN reports.
According to the CEC, the Central Election Council of ATU Gagauzia in the regulations didn’t stipulate the cap on donations in cash collected by election runners. But the legislation provides that the region is administered based on the Constitution and other laws of the Republic of Moldova and also according to normative documents of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, which do not run counter to the Constitution and other laws of the Republic of Moldova.
The Commission determined that private individuals made donations in cash that exceeded the set cap of 11,700 lei. The eight contravention cases feature all the eight candidates who ran for governor of Gagauzia. Each of the 106 donors suspected of illegal financing are liable to punishment.
The given violation is punished with a fine of 1,500 to 4,500 lei in case of private individuals and of 000 9,000 to 15,000 lei in case of persons holding responsible posts.
