Representatives of the Central Election Commission (CEC) said they organized the presidential elections in accordance with the law and the Constitutional Court will decide if they were held correctly. They developed the issue in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

CEC president Alina Russu denied the accusations of election rigging. ”The people had an increased interest in these elections. It was for the first time after a pause of 20 years that the people could choose the President themselves. I can say with certitude that the elections were held in strict compliance with the law,” she stated.

Asked about the mistaken data presented by several polling places, Russu said it happened through the operators’ fault. “Those were preliminary data that we received online. They were transmitted by operators employed for Election Day. There were three cases when the operators presented incorrect data owing to tiredness. They provided explanations. We examined these cases. It was a human error,” said the CEC president.
 
CEC member Andrei Volentir also said the presidential elections were held according to law. “We presented the preliminary results. The results will be totaled up based on the voting reports. Afterward, we will present the election outcome to the Constitutional Court. The electoral competitors can challenge the election results. The Court will decide if the elections were legal or not,” he stated.

Pavel Postica, head of the election observation mission of “Promo-LEX” Association, said a number of violations were identified, including procedural ones, but it is the Constitutional Court that will pronounce on the legality of the presidential elections.
