CEC provides details about exit poll on November 15

Update /6:21pm/ An exit poll will be held during the presidential runoff vote of November 15, the Central Election Commission has decided. “In today’s meeting of the Central Election Commission, a technical error was made in the process of continuing the votes of the CEC members. As a result of the recount, after the CEC president saw the recording, it was determined that there was the number of votes needed for the draft decision concerning the exit poll to be approved. The decision was thus approved,” the head of the Commission’s Public Relations and the Mass Media Division Rodica Sîrbu has told IPN.

The public association “Spero” and “Intellect Group” SRL informed the Central Election Commission of the intention to carry out an exit poll during the November 15 runoff vote. The draft decision was short of votes and the conduct of the exit poll wasn’t thus authorized by the CEC, IPN reports.

According to the preliminary notification, the exit poll was to be conducted at 100 national polling stations. A number of 150 operators were to be accredited for carrying out the electoral survey.

In the first round of the presidential elections held on November 1, an initiative group consisting of representatives of civil society organizations carried out an after poll by phone. A similar exercise was announced for the runoff.
