CEC initiates validation of MP seat of Vladimir Vitiuc

The Central Election Commission initiated the procedure for validating the seat of MP of Vladimir Vitiuc, who is a substitute candidate on the list of the Șor Party. The decision was taken in the May 12 meeting of the Commission, IPN reports.

CEC president Angelica Caraman said that on May 2 the Commission took note of the Parliament decision of April 27 by which the MP status of Ilan Șor was annulled and the seat was declared vacant.

“The Constitutional Court will be asked to validate the seat of Member of Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for Mister Vladimir Vitiuc, a substitute candidate on the list of the Șor Party,” noted Angelica Caraman.

On April 27, the leader of the Șor Party Ilan Șor remained without the seat of MP. The MPs adopted such a decision after they familiarized themselves with the Chisinau Appeals Court’s decision by which the politician was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The Șor Party requested the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the Parliament decision by which Ilan Șor was stripped of the seat of MP and to suspend the given decision. The request was rejected as inadmissible.
