The Central Electoral Commission today refused to register Vasile Bolea’s presidential endorsement group over affiliation inconsistencies.
Attending the CEC meeting, the lawmaker argued that he was forced to file as an independent fearing that the CEC would turn down the request for registration of Victorie- Победа bloc, which includes his Revival party. He also claimed that on August 25 he formally resigned from the party’s board and canceled his membership altogether.
CEC member Dana Munteanu cited Bolea’s declaration of assets and interests, which confirmed his Revival membership. “The Commission finds that the current status of Vasile Bolea as a member of a political party is incompatible with the status of an independent candidate. A different treatment would render the notion of an independent candidate void and merely nominal. That is, any politician with an active status could declare his independence from the party, while actually remaining part of it, misleading and confusing voters”, said Munteanu.
Also today, the CEC registered the initiative group to support constitutional scholar Alexandru Arseni for president, and the Green Party was registered as a campaigner at the constitutional referendum supporting the “yes” option.
