CC suspends law to transfer SIS

The Constitutional Court (CC) ordered to suspend the action of the December 3 law by which the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) is transferred from the President’s subordination under the Parliament’s subordination, IPN reports.

“In essence, by the given law Parliament excluded from the duties of the President of the Republic of Moldova the possibility of coordinating the activity of the Security and Intelligence Service and of naming the administration of the Service and decided that the Service’s activity will be under parliamentary control,” said the CC.

The Court pronounced following a challenge filed by PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco.

The bill to transfer the SIS from the President’s subordination under the Parliament’s subordination was adopted on December 3 by the votes of the Socialist MPs and the MPs of the For Moldova Platform that includes the Shor Party’s MPs, amid the opposition’s protest.
