Case of African swine fever confirmed in Tvardita

The presence of the virus of African swine fever in pigs at a private farm in Tvardita village of Taraclia district was confirmed by lab tests. The Exceptional Anti-Epizootic Commission approved a plan of action and imposed restrictions on the movement of animals in the village, IPN reports.

The National Food Safety Agency requested pig owners to immediately inform the authorities if animals fall ill or die.

The last cases of African swine fever were reported in Palanca village of Stefan-Voda district and in Beșghioz village of Ceadar-Lunga district.

In a meeting called by Prime Minister Pavel Filip in connection with the appearance of new hotbeds of the dieses, the official instructed the persons in charge to take increased measures to prevent the spread of the African swine fever on Moldova’s territory, including by not allowing bringing infected meat into the country. According to the Government’s press service, in all the cases the African swine fever appeared as a result of the importation of meat and meat products from Ukraine.
