Moldovan weightlifter Gheorghe Cernei failed a dope test and was suspended for two years by the International Weightlifting Federation. The president of the Moldovan Weightlifting Federation Tudor Casapu said that this fact will have serious consequences.
“We will be fined. It’s clear that it is a tragedy as he is a young man. Unfortunately, we eat too many chemicals,” Casapu has told IPN.
The athlete will be deprived of the bronze medal that he won at the World Universiade in Kazan in July. At the competition in Russia, Cernei ranked third in snatch and in clean and jerk in the 85 kg class.
In 2011Gheorghe Cernei, 23, became European youth champion in Bucharest. The suspension started on July 11, 2013 and will end in 2015.
Last week, the best athlete of Moldova Zalina Marghieva was also suspended for two years after failing a dope test.
