Car services under authorities' scrutiny. Activity rules to be introduced

The authorities intend to introduce a series of requirements for carrying out the car service activity. The drafted regulations stipulate the conditions of minimum technical equipment and the way of organizing the activity of specialized units that provide vehicle maintenance, repair, adjustment, reequipment and dismantling services, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development said that the car service activity is now carried out in the absence of clear conditions regarding the necessary equipment. "The car service workshops play an important role in maintaining and repairing the national car fleet. This sector includes a variety of services, from mechanical and electrical repairs to periodic technical inspections and preventive maintenance. The car service activity is essential to ensure road safety and to extend the life of vehicles," noted the institution.

The draft regulations contain a list of equipment and devices that a car service must possess. According to the calculation presented by the Ministry, the costs for the technical equipment of a specialized workshop vary from 54,000 lei to 220,000 lei.

Thus, one of the objectives of the new provisions is to ensure the quality of repairs through precise technical standards and appropriate qualification of personnel. The authorities also aim to reduce the negative impact on the environment by taking measures to recycle components and use eco-friendly materials. Hazardous waste, such as hazardous and toxic oils and substances, could be disposed of improperly, affecting soil and water quality.

"In the long term, the regulations will lead to an increase in the quality of competition as all market players will be obliged to comply with the high standards imposed. The workshops that remain on the market will offer higher-quality and safer services, which will stimulate competition based on excellence and innovation," says the draft.

The initiative is to be examined and approved by the Cabinet. Also, in order to reduce the impact on the economic agents that are already active on the market, a transition period of 12 months is to be set.

According to data from the Register of Related Activities, there were 801 economic agents on July 27, 2024.
