The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ENTSO-E decided to increase the capacity limit for electricity trade from Continental Europe to Ukraine and Moldova to 1,700 megawatts, based on system security and stability simulations, reflecting an increase of 500 MW from the previous limit. The decision was taken following the completion of synchronization of the energy systems of the two countries, IPN reports.
On March 16, 2022, an emergency synchronization was achieved as a signal of solidarity between the Continental European TSOs and the electric power systems of Moldova and Ukraine. “The synchronization of the national power system with the Continental European TSOs, not the diversification of the natural gas purchase sources, was actually the event that contributed the most to strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s energy independence. This enabled us to ensure the stability of the system when Russia shelled energy infrastructure in Ukraine and to advance other major reforms, including reforms with a long-term impact,” stated Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov.
ENTSO-E is the association for the cooperation of the European transmission system operators (TSOs). The 39 member TSOs, representing 35 countries, are responsible for the secure and coordinated operation of Europe’s electricity system, the largest interconnected electrical grid in the world.
