The Central Election Commission on May 16 set the cap on the amounts that can be transferred to the bank account of the initiative group for collecting signatures for initiating a local referendum on dismissing Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.
The cap is determined based on a coefficient multiplied by the number of signatures that need to be collected. The electoral legislation provides that a local referendum can be initiated by 10% of the citizens eligible to vote who live in the given administrative-territorial unit. The coefficient was set at 25.42 lei. Thus, at most 1 637 327 lei can be transferred to the bank account of the initiative group.
The Commission also decided that the second round of mayoral elections will be held in Hirova village of Calarasi district on May 28, 2017. The race will involve Socialist candidate Isac Scafaru, who gained 38.69% of the vote, and Democratic candidate Valeriu Oaserele, who won 33.94% of the poll.
