A group of people lit dozens of candles on Monday evening in front of the Opera and Ballet House in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, observing a moment of silence, IPN reports.
The participants in the demonstration thus showed their solidarity with the suffering of the victims of the horrors caused by the Holocaust.
The representative of the Museum of Jewish History of Moldova, Alexandr Vieru, a specialist in public relations at the institution, told IPN that this event, initiated last year, is a strong signal for the next generations.
"The candle lighting ceremony is a moment of silence through which we honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and we are committed to keeping the memory of these tragic events alive for future generations," added Alexandr Vieru.
In the context of the remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust, the Parliament has joined the international campaign "WeRemember", whose goal is to remember and commemorate the people who went through the Holocaust massacre. The message "WeRemember" was projected on the Parliament Building.
In July 2014, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova condemned the Holocaust, adopting a political declaration on the acceptance of the Report of the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust. The statement condemns any attempt to ignore and deny the Holocaust and pays tribute to its victims and survivors.
Instituted by a United Nations General Assembly Resolution in 2005, the International Holocaust Remembrance is celebrated every year on January 27. In the Republic of Moldova, the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust has been marked since 2015, according to a decision adopted by the Parliament.
