The IPN news agency has identified some of the problems of Chisinau municipality and has asked the candidates for the capital mayoralty how they intend to solve them.
Vitalie Marinuța, the candidate of the Ecological Green Party, believes that to eliminate the bad odour from Chisinau, a new treatment plant must be built, the renovation of the existing one being a short-term solution. As to the construction of the new station, the candidate says that there must be a rigorous monitoring of the water treatment process, as well as of the economic agents connected to the network.
Vitalie Marinuta says he will carry out a comprehensive assessment of the technical state of the current treatment plant, where until the construction of the new one, will use the best management practices. For building a new treatment plant, Vitalie Marinuța intends to use funds from the local budget, but also relies on the support of external partners.
The sanitation, arrangement and, subsequently, the maintenance of aquatic basins, beaches, parks, green areas and the Bâc river with its tributaries are other measures that, in Vitalie Marinuța's opinion, can contribute to the disappearance of the bad smell in the capital.
Also, the Green Party candidate aims to create a municipal environmental patrol, which, together with the municipal police, will rigorously monitor the cleanliness and the state of the environment in the city and will severely sanction violations of environmental legislation. "
Andrei Năstase, the candidate of ACUM Bloc for the position of mayor of the capital, believes that the bad smell in the capital has as main cause the incompetence and lack of responsibility of those who were and still are in charge of the treatment plant. Andrei Nastase says that this would not have happened if Chisinau had really had a mayor.
Andrei Năstase says that the immediate financing of the greening of the wastewater treatment plant is necessary, the money coming from external financing. The candidate of the ACUM DA PAS Bloc intends to carry out an international expert assessment to see the real situation of the treatment plant. According to the candidate, this is necessary because those who did not know how to eliminate the odour from the capital before, will not know how to do it in the future.
Andrei Năstase maintains that financial investments in the treatment plant must be made under the supervision of Romanian or European experts. Thus, according to the candidate, by the power of example, seriousness, sustained efforts and determination, the foetid smell can be eliminated.
Andrei Năstase also mentions, without going into details, that to eliminate the bad odour, Chisinau City Hall will work as never before, while serious and responsible people in the administrative structures will understand and appreciate this.
