Andrei Donică, the "Speranța-Надежда" Professional Movement candidate for the position of general mayor of Chișinău municipality, withdraws from the electoral race for the general local elections set for October 20 and urges the residents of the capital to support the ACUM bloc DA PAS candidate, Andrei Năstase. The announcement was made in an IPN press conference.
Andrei Donică said that he is withdrawing because he understands very well that he has no chance of reaching the second round of elections. In his opinion, the Socialist candidate, Ion Ceban, and the ACUM bloc mayoral hopeful, Andrei Nastase, can reach the second round. He added that he does not want to generate a spoiler effect and draw votes from others, thus reducing their chances of winning. The former candidate regrets that the right-wing segment is represented in this race by several candidates, which diminishes the chances of winning due to vote dispersion.
Andrei Donică said that he does not want to waste public money and urges other mayoral hopefuls to follow his example. Andrei Donică said that, "given the situation in Chișinău, when the left has more chances of winning, it is necessary to have political maturity, to think rationally, to step back and leave personal political ambitions aside”.
According to Andrei Donică, the city of Chișinău has reached a deplorable state and the economic situation is very difficult, which is why the mayor must be chosen in the first round, in order to start working.
Andrei Donică urged the residents of Chișinău to support the "Speranța-Надежда" Professional Movement team for the Municipal Council.
