Campaign to prevent drowning kicked off

Seventeen persons, including three minors, lost their lives in waterbodies in Moldova so far this year. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations on Wednesday launched a campaign to prevent drowning. The rescuers simulated a case of drowning and showed what needs to be done to save the life of a person in such a situation, IPN reports.

According to the scenario, a group of minors moved towards the middle of the lake with a catamaran. After crossing the demarcated area, the minors jumped into the water and failed to get back on the hydro-bike and one of them began to drown. Lifeguards intervened to help the young people and took safety all the victims to the shore.

In summer, the people are urged to strictly observe the safety rules on the water and around waterbodies in the country. Swimming is allowed only in authorized places equipped with rescue stations. At night and in bad weather conditions, entering the water should be avoided.

The Inspectorate’s specialists reminded that it is dangerous to go swimming after consuming alcohol. Under the influence of alcohol, a person’s blood pressure can change suddenly when they enter the water and cause loss of consciousness.

In hot weather, one should enter the waterbody gradually so that the body gets used to the change in temperature. Children must be supervised without interruption, even in shallow water.

The drowning prevention campaign will be carried out throughout the summer season all over the country.
