Campaign prior to local general elections begins Oct. 6

The election campaign for contenders registered as candidates for the local general elections of November 5 starts on October 6. From this day, the election contestants can hold meetings with voters, while the local public authorities are obliged to ensure the meetings take place in equal conditions, IPN reports.

Under the Election Code, during the election campaign the candidates cannot use the administrative resource, including by launching or taking part in infrastructure projects or purchases financed with state budget funds, and using public property and equipment. The public authorities/institutions and the assimilated ones cannot provide public goods or other favors to election contenders if only based on a contract, in conditions of equality.

The election contestants cannot organize concerts, competitions and other events or demonstrations involving singers, creation personnel and/or artists from Moldova and other countries, cannot post slogans or other messages during such events, cannot distribute material that contains the symbols of the election runner or other identification elements of this and cannot take part in such events for political promotion purposes.

The Central Election Commission calls on the candidates to conduct the election campaign in strict compliance with the electoral legislation. The elections can be held in a democratic climate only in conditions of transparency, correctness, equality and respect so that their outcome fully reflects the voters’ will.

The candidates whose files are being examined by district electoral councils will start the election campaign when they are registered.
