The campaign “People of Time”, within which personalities from ten areas are annually nominated and which is conducted simultaneously in six counties in northeastern Romania, extended and covers now Chisinau and Chernautsi. The project is organized based on the Iasi-Chisinau-Chernautsi trilateral cultural cooperation agreement and was presented at the Chisinau City Hall on August 11, IPN reports.
The “People of Time” is an annual event initiated by the contemporary culture magazine “Timpul” (“Time”) of Iasi and is staged by the Association of Timpul Journal (ART, Romania), in partnership with administrative and cultural institutions and academic and economic institutions. The magazine’s director Florin-Daniel Sandru said the initiative is aimed at identifying and awarding the most notable personalities from ten areas, namely literature, arts, education and research, civil society, public diplomacy, memory and history, journalism, young values, health, and entrepreneurship.
In the period before the “People of Time” Gala that will be held at the National Theater “Vasile Alecsandri” in Iasi on December 12, by a mini-gala to announce the local nominees will be staged in all the nine towns covered by the campaign. Afterward, the winners will be chosen from among these.
Deputy mayor of Iasi Mihai Chirica, on whose initiative the project was extended over the Prut River, said the personalities and those whom we consider models in life must be appreciated and shown gratitude, noting that this project should be promoted further as it is about one nation, one language and one people.
Deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said that owing to this project, the personalities from Moldova and Romania will become a common nucleus for this territory that includes both of the banks of the Prut and this is the real union.
By September 15, the public from the towns taking part in this campaign will be able to propose local nominations for each of the ten categories on www.oameniitimpului.ro, www.facebook.com/OameniiTimpului. The final results of the public voting stage will be subject to an additional jury assessment and validation process. The online votes will be 40% taken into account.
