By 13.00, the voter turnout at the local elections has exceeded 20%, which is lower as compared to the 2015 local elections, when around 28% of voters went to the polls. Today, in Chisinau municipality, by this time only over 14% have voted, IPN reports.
As for the turnout, by 13.00, more women than men have voted, the ratio being 52.08% to 47.92%. At the same time, the most active - 41.25% - are voters between the ages of 56 and 70. This age category is followed by citizens between the ages of 41 and 55 - 24.38%. The following categories are 26-40 years - 17.66%, 71 years and over- 11.69% and 18-25 years - 5.01%.
At a press conference, the chair of the Central Election Commission, Dorin Cimil, has stated that, generally, the elections are taking place according to the established norms, without significant incidents, which would jeopardize the proper conduct of the elections. According to him, one case was registered at polling station no. 1/148 from the Center sector of the capital, where due to the chair of the electoral bureau, the voting process began with a delay of 44 minutes. The CEC requested explanations from the electoral official, who claimed a technical problem of his car.
As to the elections in the uninominal constituencies, in constituency no. 17, 12 thousand voters went to the polls, while in constituency no. 33 – about nine thousand voters. In the 25 polling stations opened in constituency no. 48, over 600 voters have voted. In constituency no. 50 a turnout of about 2300 voters has been recorded, the most active being those in Italy. Dorin Cimil has said that at any of the polling stations opened abroad, no queues have formed. The CEC chair has mentioned that voters who, for health reasons or other solid reasons, cannot come to the polling station premises, can ask the electoral bureau to vote through mobile ballot boxes. Written applications may be submitted until 15.00, on the day of voting, if a medical certificate is presented.
Dorin Cimil has reminded that election campaigning is strictly forbidden today. Carrying out or reflecting activities or materials containing electoral campaigning bias and electoral contenders’ appearance on TV or radio programs are not allowed.
The polling stations are open until 21.00.
