Moldova needs the investments and expertise of migrants, while the migrants need clarity and guarantees on the part of the authorities. Such statements were made in the business forum of the diaspora that is taking place in Chisinau today, on October 6, IPN reports.
In the event, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the relations with the diaspora are a priority for the current government. “These are not only simple words and political statements that are not supported by deeds and actions. We take actions and have policies,” he stated. Among the Government’s steps aimed at the migrants, the Premier mentioned the guaranteeing of the right to vote by establishing polling places, the creation of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, the opening of consular sections in regions where there are many Moldovan migrants, and the cheapening of the price of plane tickets.
According to Iurie Leanca, the migrants can contribute to the country’s development by direct investments in the economy and by their professional and academic expertise and experience gained abroad. “Those who work at investment banks and companies abroad and those who studied there can help us to work out a new government program,” he stated.
“There is a great difference between the migrants and the diaspora as the diaspora is a more developed and sophisticated network. The efforts made over the last few years pursued the following goals: to keep the people closer, even if they are abroad; to include them; to inform them; to enable them to state their opinions and to form part of processes taking place inside the country,” said Dumitru Alaiba, head of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations.
Chiril Gaburici, the representative of the diaspora from Azerbaijan and director general of the company Azercell, said the business forum is important both because migrant businesspeople can establish relations between them and because they can inform themselves abut the political and economic situation in the country. “We, those who work and make money abroad, want clarity so that we are motivated to come and invest here. We want guarantees for our investments,” he stated.
The business forum of the diaspora was organized by the Bureau for Diaspora Relations with the support of the German Federal Enterprise for
International Cooperation (GIZ).
