Bucharest Constitutional Court to decide on Romanian President’s dismissal
On Monday, April 23, the judges of Constitutional Court in Bucharest (CCR) are to decide on the dismissal of Romanian President Traian Basescu, Info-Prim Neo reports citing the Romanian press.
According to the cited sources, the Court will receive the documents regarding the President’s dismissal announced on Friday, April 20. The Court must give its formal approval for the documents before the interim president takes over the office.
On Thursday afternoon, not long after the Parliament (322 pro votes, 108 "against" and 10 annulled votes) had decided on dismissal of the head of state, “The Official Monitor” published the Judgement in this case. (President’s sacking).
According to the representatives of the MPs Chamber, CCR should have received an official acknowledgement of Parliament’s decision and declared the vacancy on Friday morning. Sources from the Parliament’s leadership stated that the cancellation of the CCR’s judgement will make the vacancy to become known the most probably on Monday.
In compliance with the legal regulations, the leadership of those two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament must reach the Constitutional Court’s standpoint within 48 hours.
