The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) will announce a new contest to fill the vacant post of member of the Supervisory Board of the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”. In the September 15 meeting, none of the competing candidates polled the number of votes needed to be elected, IPN reports.

Only three of the five candidates (Boris Bechet, Igor Cibotaru, Virgiliu Margineanu, Alina Palii, and Nicolae Spataru) came to the meeting because Igor Cibotaru withdrew from the contest, while Virgiliu Margineanu went to a Film Festival in Poland. None of the attending candidates garnered the necessary number of votes.

The BCC members noted that each of the three candidates earlier took part in this contest and underlined the performance of Boris Bechet, who gained four votes. Nicolae Spataru and Alina Palii won by one vote.

“This contest and the status of Supervisory Board member require irreproachable performance. I still have reserves as to the profile of the possible member of the Board,” said BCC member Dragos Vicol, who voted for none of the candidates.

The Council will announce a new contest within 15 days of the publication of the relevant decision in the Official Gazette. Earlier, the BCC members selected three candidates (Marina Turcan, Arhip Cibotaru and Vitalie Tabunshchik), but need to choose one more candidate for proposing to Parliament for confirmation by two candidates for each of the two vacancies on the Supervisory Board.

The Supervisory Board stopped work at the end of 2013, when the terms in office of six members of the nine expired. At the start of March, Parliament confirmed to post four Board members, namely Vitalie Tapes, Stela Nistor, Ludmila Vasilache, and Lilia Gurez.
