Five TV channels were penalized by the Broadcasting Coordination Council for not ensuring the sign-language interpretation of news and other important programs in the electoral period. The monitoring covered 13 TV channels and was initiated as a result of a complaint filed by the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring of Gender Equality, IPN reports.
The five TV channels - Prime, Publika TV, Canal 3, Canal 2, and N 4 - were penalized with the lowest fine (1,800 lei). The channels Euro TV and RTR Moldova were warned publicly for committing the same violation.
Pro TV Chisinau, Jurnal TV and Ren Moldova, which dub only the news bulletins of 6:00am, were recommended to ensure synchronous dubbing at more accessible hours.
The Broadcasting Code provides that one news program during prime time must be daily interpreted in sign language or dubbed.
