Writer Vladimir Beșleagă considers all the elections in Moldova center on geopolitics. “We can no way say that we decide autonomously as everything is done based on the geopolitical aspect,” the writer stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe. “Ukraine also does not concede and will never concede, if only a collapse is witnessed and the collapse of this empire can occur only as a result of an absolutely unexpected catastrophe that we cannot imagine and do not want as this would have an impact on us too. This empire is a powder barrel that can get out of control and can destroy the whole continent and not only, but also half of Asia, Siberia and other parts,” noted the writer.

A number of 146 electoral competitors in the February 24 parliamentary elections were registered in single-member constituencies by January 13, 2019. Of the total number of candidates, five are independents, while the others represent parties.

Among the politicians registered in single-member constituencies so far are: the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc (single-member constituency No. 17, Nisporeni); Prime Minister Pavel Filip (single-member constituency No. 20, Strășeni); the leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase (single-member constituency No. 33, Chisinau); the leader of the Shor Party Ilan Shor (single-member constituency No. 18, Orhei); the leader of the Party of Socialists Zinaida Grecheanyi (single-member constituency No. 1, Briceni).

Only six political parties were registered in the national constituency so far. These are: the Democratic Party; the electoral bloc ACUM; the Party of Communists; the Party of Socialists; the Shor Party and the People’s Movement “Antimafie”.

The Party of Socialists requested the Government and the Central Election Commission (CEC) to take into account the real number of citizens with the right to vote when deciding the number of polling places that will be established abroad for the February 24, 2019 elections. The Socialists suggest establishing by 100 polling places in constituencies No. 49 and 50 eastward and westward Moldova and 30 polling places in constituency No. 51 that covers the U.S. and Canada.

The list of beneficiaries of the  2% mechanism for 2019 includes 732 organizations, which is by 23% more than in 2018, as the Public Services Agency has said. According to the Legal Resources Center, which analyzed the data of the Public Services Agency, 86% of the beneficiaries of the 2% mechanism or 634 organizations are public associations, foundations and private institutions (noncommercial organizations).

2% of the income tax can be assigned by private individuals who do not perform entrepreneurial activities and do not have debts to the national public budget for the previous fiscal periods.

In Gagauz-Yeri, they are ready to pay the parents who will teach their children the mother tongue. An unusual experiment was announced in Avdarma village of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia: if the children enrolled at school know perfectly the Gagauz language, the parents will receive 10,000 lei. The goal of the initiative is to motivate the inhabitants to know and teach their children the mother tongue that has lost ground during the past few years even in rural areas. The public and the authorities of the region do not doubt that the problem can be solved only by determined actions, but the chosen methods weren’t welcomed by everyone.

“Traditionally, the Chisinau City Hall, the Public Amenities Division warn all those in charge, the managers of buildings to take the necessary measures to prevent the falling of icicles as these can cause damage to property and even traumas to people,” Gennady Dubița, deputy head of the Public Amenities Division, stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions.
