The border policeman accused of plotting against Moldova was placed under arrest. The head of the Parliament’s Legal Department Ion Creangă, who is accused of treason, was also placed under arrest today. According to state prosecutors, the two allegedly provided information, including information classed as state secret, in exchange for money, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that the Ciocana Court of Chisinau City pronounced its decision in the absence of the detained persons, who invoked health reasons.
The lawyer for the head of the Parliament’s Legal Department considers that 30 days of arrest is a too harsh measure. So far, his client has not accepted to make statements and has not communicated his position. “He has a precarious state of health. He has health problems and, respectively, I presented the court with a confirmatory document and asked to be examined in absentia,” stated the lawyer.
According to the prosecutor in charge of the case, the defendant made use of his right not to make statements, reasoning that he feels bad and needs time to decide whether or not to make statements. As for the border guard, he does not admit his guilt.
When asking for arrest warrants, the state prosecutors argued there are risks of evasion of the criminal prosecution body and the court, of interference in the proper conduct of the criminal investigation and of influencing witnesses.
On Wednesday, PCCOCS prosecutors announced the detention of two officials, of the Parliament’s Secretariat and the Border Police, who are suspected of treason and plotting against the Republic of Moldova in their communication with the employee of an embassy based in Chisinau.
