Border Police officer arrested for allegedly receiving €12,000 bribe

A Border Police officer was arrested by the National Anticorruption Center after he allegedly requested and received a €12,000 bribe from a Chisinau couple to help them avoid prosecution in a case investigated by the Center for Combating Human Trafficking.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the pair have been investigated for allegedly subjecting an employee to forced labor, and the officer reportedly told the pair he could convince the prosecutor to drop the charges.

The bribe was handed over to the suspect in a sting operation. The officer is now in remand detention, being charged with influence peddling. Further evidence is being gathered.
