The Chisinau International Airport was the target of bomb scares on Saturday night and Sunday evening. It was reported that explosives had been placed also in an aircraft. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the Border Police Raisa Novitsky.
“In both cases, the presence of explosive devices in the Airport and in the aircraft was announced by phone. According to procedure, the airport staff and travelers were evacuated from the building. The specialized services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were informed and mobilized for checks,” said Raisa Novitsky.
After the checks, it turned out that the bomb threats were false and the Airport resumed its work according to the ordinary program. As to the aircraft, the examinations continue and the schedule was disrupted.
The Romanian press reported that the London-Chisinau flight, with 220 passengers on board, was diverted to Iasi on Sunday evening. The passengers of the Wizz Air aircraft will arrive in Chisinau by bus.
Criminal cases were initiated on both cases for intentionally misinforming about an act of terrorism, which is punishable by a fine in the amount of 27,500 to 42,500 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or imprisonment for at most two years.
