Body of a Moldovan woman dead on the way to Italy remained in the mountains almost half a year
A woman aged 38, from Moldova, died in the Balkan Mountains on the way to Italy, illegal destination country for which she has left in February. Until now, her body wasn’t got back.
The information was made public at a briefing of the Interior Ministry, by the head of the Center for Fighting Illegal Migration, Petru Plop. According to him, Maria Coltsu, inhabitant of Drochia town was part of a group illegally guided to Italy. The organizer of this trip was a travel company from Balti municipality, its owner being part of an international organization of trafficking in humans, via Bulgaria and the Balkan Mountains to Greece, where, on the basis of false Slovak and Lithuanian passports, the group was getting to Italy.
According to Mr. Plop, the woman, suffering from cardio-vascular problems, didn’t make it while passing the mountains and died. The trip’s organizers didn’t mind to take care of the woman’s body and left it in the mountains.
At the moment, the company’s manager is arrested for trafficking in humans and risks up to 25 years of imprisonment.
According to Mr. Plop, at the moment all travel companies of the capital are checked, as the majority of them are involved in trafficking in humans. As result of the control, 35 control acts, 24 reports were made and 4 licenses were withdrawn.
240 travel companies are working in Moldova, including 58 with the right to hire persons from foreign countries.
