Firefighters established that the explosion in Orhei happened On the second floor of the five-story building, in the apartment of the only person who died in the blast. The victim was 49. Another three apartments from the same floor were destroyed. The local authorities offered the families to stay temporarily at a local hotel.
Contacted by IPN, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan said the apartments from the first and third floors were also affected by the explosion, the windows and doors being blown apart.
A local commission is examining the place to determine the exact causes of the blast and the losses sustained by the dwellers, who will receive financial assistance for repairing the apartments. Specialists said the evacuation of the whole block is not necessary and the dwellers from the upper stories can remain in their apartments.
The explosion occurred on the night of October 18, at about 1am. Four apartments on the floor where the explosion happened were destroyed. A man was killed and three persons were hurt. Two of the victims are still in the hospital. An apartment from the second floor was leased out and the lessees weren’t at home when the blast occurred. The owners of the fourth apartment are abroad.
