The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has drafted a bill that provides for the informing of consumers about foods products. The document defines the general principles, requirements and responsibilities that regulate the process of informing about the food products, especially as regards the labeling of these types of products, IPN reports.
The Ministry said the bill was presented and discussed with representatives of associations of meat and dairy producers in a meeting. There was presented a plan of measures that will be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Food Safety Agency and the Ministry of Economy. The National Food Safety Agency will intensify border control over imported products of animal origin.
The bill is designed to protect the national producers and domestic market of products of animal origin from massive imports from Ukraine. It will be submitted for approval and placed on the Ministry’s website for public consultations.
It was decided that the Ministry will stage meetings with meat and dairy producers and associations of such producers once in two weeks so as to monitor the situation and take measures to protect the home market from imports of products of animal origin.
Several weeks ago, meat and dairy producers made an appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture, saying they risk going bankrupt following the ban imposed by Russia on the import of Ukrainian products and the authorization of Ukrainian producers to export to Moldova.
