On old-style Christmas Eve, rescuers urge the people to avoid crowds in places of worship and to handle lights in churches with care. Firefighters ask parishioners to observe the fire safety rules and to place candles outside the building, in specially arranged places, IPN reports.
Church staff is urged to carefully exploit heating sources and check electrical equipment in order to avoid malfunctions and risk situations. At the end of the services, those in charge are asked to check the church rooms to ensure that there are no forgotten devices in the socket or sources of burning.
In order not to hinder the access of emergency services, access ways must be kept free, without being blocked by cars or people.
"For the Nativity of the Lord not to be overshadowed by risk situations, the firefighters urge the people to observe the safety rules in their own homes, namely to use stoves without violations, to permanently ventilate the rooms and the elderly should be visited by the close ones to help them heat the stoves," said the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. Children should not be left unsupervised.
Repeatedly, rescuers warn the population that the use of pyrotechnics can become dangerous, especially if the fireworks are handled by children or teenagers. Setting off firecrackers can cause fires, burns and trauma.
In order to ensure safety and security during the Christmas holiday, 450 employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations are on duty. In case of exceptional situations, the people are urged to call the 112 Service.
