BEM shareholders convene General Assembly

A General Assembly of the shareholders of Banca de Economii (BEM), by correspondence, will take place on August 2. It is to decide whether to contribute to increasing the bank’s registered capital or not, IPN reports.

The state is a majority shareholder of the BEM with a holding of 56.1%. The legal entities own together 40.9%, while the private individuals – 2.6%. A number of organizational and economic measures have been recently taken to remedy the difficult situation created at the bank following the release of bad loans that could not be recovered.

“I think we should now wait for the shareholders’ decision. Afterward, we can anticipate how things will develop at the BEM,” said the National Bank of Moldova governor Dorin Dragutanu. In order to ameliorate the situation at the BEM, Dragutanu earlier suggested making investments of 600-700 million lei in the bank.

The General Extraordinary Assembly of the BEM shareholders was called under a July 15 decision of the bank’s Board. It begins at 11am.
