Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vlad Batrîncea, is skeptical about the economic recovery package of €600 million promised to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union. According to the Socialist MP, Brussels will not offer this money to our country, while the announcement concerning the allocation of the first tranche was made only for offering a campaign subject to President Maia Sandu and the pro-presidential party PAS, IPN reports.

Vlad Batrîncea said the Republic of Moldova should analyze very thoroughly the conditions in which external financing is provided by the East and by the West. Investing millions of euros in an “abstract” notion such as the justice sector reform is a waste of money.

“Our position is that the financing should be directed to the development of the economy, infrastructure, industry. This will offer our citizens jobs, salaries and the state will ultimately offer taxes. But this abstract financing comes again for the justice sector reform. This reform has been financed since the time of Filat and the money goes to the pockets of experts and consultants. The citizens do not feel any benefit. This announcement is nothing else but an electoral present for Maia Sandu,” Vlad Batrîncea stated in the talk show “Matter of Principle” on AccentTV channel.

He noted the EU made the announcement concerning the allocation of money during the campaign so as to influence voters’ preferences before the snap parliamentary elections.

“A campaign subject was offered to Maia Sandu, but this money will not come to the country. The allocation of this money is conditional on reforms and this means that we must offer Maia Sandu the whole power and then this money will be provided. The external financing should be aimed strictly at concrete economic projects. We are ready to conclude such agreements with the East and with the West,” stated Vlad Batrîncea.

The Economic Recovery Plan for 2021-2024 for the Republic of Moldova is based on five pillars, namely public finance management and economic governance; competitive economy, trade & SMEs; infrastructure; education & employability; and the rule of law & justice reform.
