Base pay for Chisinau teachers has been raised

The base pay for the teachers working in Chisinau city has been raised by 20 percent. The Chisinau City Council adopted a decision to this effect at its Tuesday’s meeting, with the vote of 26 councillors.
This raise will cost the municipality 49.4 million lei, which will be allocated from the funds left over (102 mln) from the 2007 city budget.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated that the salary hike for the teachers comes to fulfil one of the older promises made by the former city administration and renewed last summer in the election campaign.
A 20 percent raise was also given to the employees of cultural institutions (+1.12 mln lei), employees of the health care system (+260,700 lei), and social assistants (+944,800 lei).
