The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso was welcomed on Thursday at around 8:30pm at the Chisinau Airport by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, accompanied by a number of ministers, and Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, the head of the EU Delegation. Barosso was welcomed with the traditional wine, bread and salt. The Presidential Brass Band performed the anthem of the European Union and the anthem of Moldova. The President of the European Commission saluted the delegation that welcomed him and then left the airport. Jose Manuel Barroso is on his first visit to Moldova, on the invitation of Prime Minister Vlad Filat. On Friday, the President of the European Commission will meet with the country's leadership, including the leaders of parliamentary parties and the heads of parliamentary groups. Later on Friday, Barosso and Filat will travel to Yerevan to attend the 2nd Eastern Partnership Summit of the European People's Party.
