Bank deposit guarantee ceiling raised

The bank deposit guarantee ceiling will be increased to 50,000 lei as of January 1, 2020, under a bill that was given a final reading by Parliament on November 1. Currently, the ceiling is 20,000 lei and was raised from 6,000 lei on January 1, 2018, IPN reports.

From January 2020, if the deposits of a licensed bank become unavailable, the deposit guarantee fund will guarantee 50,000 lei for each depositor, regardless of the number and size of held deposits and of the currency in which they were opened.

The law specifies in detail the procedures for selling debtor debts with reduction. The debtor debts will be sold at outcry auctions or by bidding. The initial selling price of debtor debts is set at minimum 90% of the balance of debts and the price diminution pace of the same lot at the next selling procedures will be set at maximally 10% of the price set for the first procedure.
