A resident of Balti municipality aged 49 was sentenced to eight years and a half in jail for procuring and trafficking in children.
The Balti Prosecutor’s Office said that in December 2010, the man recruited a girl aged 13 from a socially deprived family and convinced her to provide sexual services for money to a citizen of Georgia.
Prosecutor Vitalie Belinschi, who examined the case, has told IPN that the girl didn’t have sexual intercourse with the Georgian citizen as she told him that she is infected with HIV. The man gave yet money to the girl and the procurer.
The police were unable to question the Georgian citizen as a witness because he left Moldova before a criminal case was started.
The procurer was also accused of recruiting another girl aged 18, who needed money, to provide sexual services.
The court decision is not yet definitive.
