An officer of the Bălți Police Inspectorate diagnosed with the novel coronavirus died in the morning of June 20. The General Police Inspectorate said the officer aged 52 struggled with the virus for two weeks, IPN reports.
The man, who was the father of a minor child, had worked in the police force since 1999. His wife is a doctor and has worked alongside her husband in the front line.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this is the second police officer killed by COVID-19. More than 250 employees of the Ministry have contracted the virus so far.
In the morning of June 20, the Ministry of Health reported eight deaths associated with COVID-19. Among the victims is a woman aged 37 from Ceadâr-Lunga, who was admitted to the district hospital in a serious state, with bilateral pneumonia and respiratory insufficiency, on June 17.
A number of 13,556 infections with the novel coronavirus and 456 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Moldova by now.
