The fact that Moldova avoids to sign the Convention on the small border traffic with Romania can lead to the destabilization of the political situation in the country, affecting the local population, the leaders of the Moldova Democrat Party (PDM) told a press conference today, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the head of PDM, Dumitru Diacov, the delaying in signing the document leads to the tensioning of the situation, especially in the districts at the border, as well as to the provocation of a conflict between the two parties. PDM sent a letter to president Vladimir Voronin in order to convince the authorities to participate more actively in signing the document in due time. The recent extension of the European Union to the borders of Moldova affected the free circulation and the economic activities along the frontier. By signing the convention, the authorities will open new opportunities provided by the small border traffic to Moldovan citizens, the leader of PDM specified. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova should not become hostages. As soon as the convention is signed, Moldovans will feel what the European integration means, stated Oazu Nantoi, the party’s deputy chairman. The leaders of PDM specified that their party will do the greatest effort to convince all the European bodies that Moldovan citizens should be granted free access to the EU as soon as possible. They also stated that the authorities in Chisinau can be persuaded to sign the convention only through a well reasoned dialog, but not by using force or protests. Earlier, the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance launched the initiative to collect signatures of the citizens, who are unsatisfied with the authorities’ refusal to sign with Romania the Convention on small frontier traffic. The Liberal Democrat Party announced that it will organize several meetings with citizens in this direction.
