Authorities hope to open accession negotiates with EU this autumn

The authorities are hopeful that the Republic of Moldova’s efforts to implement the nine recommendations of the EU will represent a solid basis for the European Commission to recommend opening the accession negotiations in the autumn of 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu stated in a meeting with the Director General of the European Commission responsible for enlargement negotiations Gert Jan Koopman, IPN reports.

According to Nicu Popescu, the implementation of the recommendations put forward by the European Commission has been a priority. The Republic of Moldova managed to achieve significant progress in fulfilling the nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission in its opinion about Moldova’s accession to the EU and continues to work on their fulfillment.

For his part, Gert Jan Koopman welcomed the steps taken by the Moldovan authorities, underlining the importance of allocating adequate human and financial resources for ensuring the sustainability of the done reforms. The European official also emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuity after June 2023 of the actions implemented now.

Of the nine conditions put forward by the European Commission, four refer to the justice sector reform. The others concern the fight against corruption, the fight against organized crime and the strengthening of administrative capacities for joining the EU.
