Association of Historians welcomes “European Moldova” Assembly, makes call for presence

The “Alexandru Moșanu” Association of Historians of the Republic of Moldova and a group of members of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova support the organization of the “European Moldova” Assembly and call on the citizens to be present at the event. They also call upon the young people to attend the Assembly as an event convened in the perspective of the development course. They formulated a number of proposals that will be incorporated into a document.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, the Association’s chairman Anatol Petrencu said that the Association called on the President’s Office to include their representatives in the organizational committee of the event, but didn’t get a response. In the letter, he assured the President’s Office of assistance in organizing and holding the event. The historians are ready to explain to the population, through public debates, press articles, radio and TV programs, the context in which the assembly was convened, the decisions adopted by the previous national assemblies and the opportunity, necessity and importance of holding and supporting the planned People’s Assembly.

At the same time, to better use the intellectual potential of the Association and to better coordinate the joint actions, they asked that two-three representatives of the Association should be included in the organizational committee. Regrettably, they not only weren’t invited to join in, but didn’t even receive a response from the President’s Office.

The Association’s deputy chairman Ion Negrei said the Association put forward a number of recommendations in connection with the Assembly. The Association considers that the “national assembly” is the best form of organizing the meeting as for the people this is a method of stating the national will over a particular issue. The national assemblies were convoked in critical moments. At present, the aggression of the hybrid war on all its dimensions is the critical moment. That’s why the convocation of a national assembly of European integration is welcome.

Alecu Reniță, a member of the first Parliament, said that it is very important for the resolution that will be eventually adopted in the event to stipulate the guidelines set down in the Declaration of Independence of August 27, 1991 as this declaration lays at the basis of the state and all the enactments lead to events that decided the fate of the Romanian nation form both sides of the Prut. The information space should be protected from Russian propaganda by being sealed hermetically. The Assembly of May 21 will be the gathering of those who support Romania, the EU and NATO.

Valentin Dolganiuc, a member of the first Parliament, noted that the Russian world is still present in the area between the Prut and the Nistru. Nothing has been done to remove it from here and the citizens remain victims of the Russian presence here. He voiced hope that the Assembly will be successful and will take into account the ideas presented in the news conference.

The “European Moldova” Assembly will take place in the central square of Chisinau on May 21, starting at 11am.
