Moldova should sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in April, said Romanian MEP Monica Macovei, who heads the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from Parliament.

In a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman in Chisinau, Monica Macovei assured that the EU is for democracy and stability in Moldova. “We will hold discussions with the EU member states so that the Association Agreement with the EU is signed as quickly as possible,” said the MEP.

Igor Corman stated that the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU is the key objective of the Moldovan authorities. “The liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans wasn’t a present from the EU or a reaction to the geopolitical situation. The decision confirmed the fact that we not only adopt laws, but also implement them,” said the Speaker.

Igor Corman reiterated the importance of continuing the dialogue with Russia at parliamentary and governmental levels and of developing commercial and economic relations with the CIS member states.

The European Parliament’s delegation headed by Monica Macovei is paying a visit to Moldova on March 24-26, 2014.
