Associated Press struggles with information theft
The Associated Press aims to identify the users that fraudulently use the information provided by the agency by simply copying and compiling the content, Money.ro said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The agency will create a news registry that will tag and track all AP content online to assure compliance with terms of use. The system will register key identifying information about each piece of content that AP distributes as well as the terms of use of that content.
Recently, Journalism Online said that it entered into partnership with hundreds of newspapers and electronic journals that want to use its e-commerce system. Therefore, the readers that will access the content online will be charged from this autumn.
The website plans to earn $50 to $100 per user. Thus, a site with one million visitors a month would make incomes of $5 to $10 million.
Money.ro says all the moves began after the Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who owns Media NewsCorp, announced that he would introduce charges for access to all his news websites. "Quality journalism is not cheap," said Murdoch. "The digital revolution has opened many new and inexpensive distribution channels but it has not made content free. We intend to charge for all our news websites."
