Road workers will be on duty to promptly intervene with snow removal and anti-skid operations in order to ensure optimal traffic conditions, the State Road Administration (ASD) announced.
In sectors with increased risk of snowfall, snow guards have been installed to reduce the risk of snow accumulation and to ensure a safer driving environment on national public roads. The actions were taken following the issuance of a cold spell and snow storm advisory for January 7-10.
About 1,000 workers and 500 vehicles will be involved in winter road maintenance, snow removal and deicing efforts on the national public roads. The equipment includes motor graders, tracked bulldozers, tractors with bladed tires, snowblowers, dispensers, loaders and excavators.
Also, 20,000 tonnes of salt and sand mixture, 11,000 tonnes of road salt, and 24,000 tonnes of sand have been prepared for deicing and anti-icing operations.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution, adjust their speed to the road conditions, ensure that their vehicles are properly equipped and inform themselves in advance about traffic conditions.
