Archer Dan Olaru wins World Cup stage 1 in Antalya

Moldovan archer Dan Olaru has won the Antalya 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup stage 1. In the final, Irina Chekanova’s pupil beat 2016 Olympic vice champion Jean-Charles Valladont of France 6-4, IPN reports.

Dan Olaru, 26, has qualified for a World Cup final for the first time. The competition in Turkey was a qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

President Maia Sandu addressed a congratulatory message to Dan Olaru. “Success honors those who believe in it, believe in the own forces, work assiduously and overcome all the impediments and challenges. We are proud of our young people who transform each day into clear steps towards victory,” runs the message.

Last weekend, weightlifter Tudor Bratu won a bronze medal at the European Weightlifting Championships held in Yerevan. In total, he lifted 374 kg, being outstripped by Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan (392 kg) and Georgia’s Irakli Chkheidze (387 kg) in the 102 kg weight class.
