The Orthodox Christians on July 12 celebrate the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, which are called the pillars of the Orthodox Church. This feast also marks the end of the Apostles’ Fast, which is also called the Fast of the Holy Apostles, the Fast of Peter and Paul, or sometimes St. Peter’s Fast, which lasted for almost a month.
“These Saint Apostles laid the foundations of Christianity. In them we find real values related to the love for God, hope and faith. They are the most important saints in the Orthodox Church,” priest Eugen Onicov, of the Chisinau Church “Saint Pantelimon”, has told IPN.
Saints Petru and Pavel are considered the heads of the apostles and preachers because they contributed to the spread of the Christian teachings in many parts of the world. The apostles were killed by order of Roman Emperor Nero. Saint Paul was beheaded, while Saint Peter was crucified.
