Owing to drought, the level of water in the Nistru River decreased to 8.5 meters. SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” said that if a critical level is reached, it will ask to open the dam of the Dubăsari hydropower plant so as to ensure the average level needed to ensure the functioning of the Nistru water pumping station, IPN reports.
The water supplier said that the current level of water in the Nistru for now enables the Nistru water pumping station, which supplies Chisinau with water, to function. To ensure steady water supply and sewerage services, specialists of the company are permanently monitoring the level of water.
The administration of SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” calls again on the entrepreneurs and inhabitants of the municipality of Chisinau to consume water reasonably, only for household purposes. Owing to drought, the level of water in the Nistru can decline further and it will be hard to maintain the necessary water flow.
For its part, the Ministry of Environment has warned that the Republic of Moldova faces a severe drought and calls upon the population to contribute to conserving water. The people are asked to install dosing taps as they reduce water consumption and to make sure that the taps and toilets do not allow water leaks. The farmers are urged to secure water reserves for the periods when the water resources are limited by filling the ponds for irrigation. Irrigation is indicated at night, when less water than during the way evaporates.
The water supply operators are recommended to review the water supply schedules and to introduce supply by hour (the supply will be interrupted between 9am and 12 noon and between 6pm and 9pm for water resources to be replenished) and to adjust the pressure in pipes to the lowest optimal transportation level by ensuring the supply of water to consumers.
